What is MD5?
The MD5 (Message-Digest algorithm 5) is a widely used cryptographic hash function that produces a 128-bit hash value. While it was originally designed to be used as a cryptographic hash function, it has been found to suffer from extensive vulnerabilities. Today, it is primarily used as a checksum to verify data integrity against unintentional corruption.
Note on Security
⚠️ Security Advisory: MD5 is no longer considered cryptographically secure for passwords or sensitive digital signatures because it is vulnerable to collision attacks. For security-critical applications, please use SHA-256 or SHA-512.
